3 men, 1 woman remanded for gun found under mattress in Kraal Road operation; minor granted bail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Four adults were remanded to the Belize Central Prison and a 16-year-old minor was granted bail after police allegedly found a Glock pistol and ammunition under a mattress during a search at a residence at the corner of Caesar Ridge Road and Kraal Road in Belize City.

The accused are homeowner Natasha Hughes, 36; her common-law husband, Eldon Pratt, 27; Devon Pratt, 30, of Burrell Boom Village; Andrew Baizar, 37; and a 16-year-old high school student. They were jointly charged with kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license.

Police say that on Saturday, June 6, members of the Special Patrol Unit Team 3 conducted a search at Hughes’ residence, located at the corner Caesar Ridge Road and Kraal Road. During the search, officers allegedly found a brown and silver Glock 9×19 9mm pistol under a mattress in a bedroom reportedly occupied by Hughes and Eldon Pratt. Police also found two 9mm magazines and seven live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

According to police, Eldon Pratt initially claimed ownership of the firearm when the group was detained. However, during their arraignment in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, Devon Pratt pleaded guilty to both charges and indicated that the firearm and ammunition belonged to him.

Despite Devon Pratt’s guilty plea, the prosecutor informed the court that the charges would not be withdrawn against the others at this stage. As a result, bail was denied for the four adults, who were remanded pending Devon Pratt’s sentencing.

The Senior Magistrate deferred sentencing for Devon Pratt to June 29, 2026, when a mitigation plea is expected to be heard before sentence is imposed. The court also noted that the offenses carry a prison term and not a fine.

The 16-year-old minor was granted bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, he must reside with his maternal grandmother, stay away from the Caesar Ridge Road residence, remain indoors by 6:00 p.m., and must not be arrested or charged with any offense while out on bail.

All five accused are due back in court on June 29, 2026.
