By Aaron Humes: After completing an 11-week course in March, 27 men and women have joined the National Fire Service.
According to Fire Chief Colin Gillett, the group learned fire and safety techniques in conjunction with their expanded capacity as emergency medical technicians (EMTs).
Two further cohorts are planned for graduation this year, increasing Belize’s complement of firefighters to more than 200 (with the new recruits the current total is 190).
The new firefighters will be deployed where they are most needed per the Fire Chief.
