23-year-old man granted $4,500 bail for allegedly inappropriately touching minor; Teen girl came to court trying to drop charge but was not allowed to

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 23-year-old man accused of inappropriately touching a minor has been ordered to move out of his neighborhood as a strict condition of his bail to avoid being remanded to prison.

Kenton McLarren was arraigned unrepresented late Thursday evening in the Belize City Magistrate Court on a single charge of sexual assault upon a minor. The charge stems from allegations that on February 3, 2026, he intentionally and without consent touched the private parts of a female under the age of 16. During his arraignment, McLarren pleaded not guilty.

Outside the courtroom, the young victim, accompanied by an adult female relative, expressed a desire to withdraw the charges. However, a police sergeant acting as the prosecutor informed the sitting magistrate that the prosecution has no intention of entertaining the withdrawal at this time.

Newly appointed Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed expressed concern for the young victim’s safety. He requested the immediate intervention of the Human Services Department, ordering a social inquiry report and the assignment of a social worker to the case.

Magistrate Mohammed offered McLarren bail in the sum of $4,500, plus two sureties of $2,250, which the accused met late on Friday. To maintain his freedom while the matter is before the court, McLarren must strictly adhere to several bail conditions. Most notably, he is ordered to relocate from the neighborhood where the young victim resides.

Additionally, McLarren must not interfere with the victim or her family members in any way, must maintain a distance of at least 100 feet from the victim at all times, and is required to report to the Racoon Street Police Station every Friday. Any violation of these conditions could result in his bail being revoked.
