By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) are set to face Costa Rica on Tuesday night at the Estadio Nacional in San José, as part of the Concacaf Gold Cup Preliminary Round. Following a challenging first match in which Belize suffered a 7-0 defeat in Belmopan, the team will look to redeem themselves in this second encounter. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Twenty-three players travelled to Costa Rica under the tutelage of Head Coach Charlie Slusher. Goalkeeper Brandon Anderson, representing Belmopan United, joins the team as the sole addition to the roster since Friday. The team faces an uphill battle against Costa Rica, who hold a commanding lead and are virtually guaranteed to qualify for the Gold Cup.
While a turnaround isn’t expected given the lopsided score, Belize fans remain hopeful that the BMNT will stand up gallantly against a far more experienced and effective Costa Rican.
