By Horace Palacio: A quiet family trip to Belize City turned into a nightmare for a Belize District family after 15 horses were stolen from their farm near mile 13 on the Philip Goldson Highway, in what appears to be a coordinated act of livestock theft.

The victim, 44-year-old Joshua Trapp, a self-employed resident of Trinidad Road, told police that he and his family were away for the day and returned home around 4:00 p.m. to find that several of their horses were missing. Upon checking the pasture, Trapp discovered that 15 horses had vanished, each valued at approximately $15,000, totaling a staggering $225,000 in losses.

Seven of the horses were later found tied up with rope in the area, likely left behind by the thieves. As Trapp continued to assess the scene, he said he witnessed two unidentified men fleeing through nearby bushes, raising further suspicion that the culprits were still in the vicinity.

Adding another layer to the investigation, police are reviewing a disturbing video circulating online showing young men chopping a horse in what appears to be a cruel act of violence. Trapp believes the injured horse in the video could be one of his missing animals.

Police say the individuals in the video are known gang members, and they are exploring a possible link between the video and the stolen livestock.

So far, only 7 of the 15 horses have been recovered, with 8 still missing. Police investigations are ongoing, and the public is being asked to come forward with any information that may assist.
