By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After sweeping through Orange Walk Town with Jyven Gonzalez claiming the $1,000 Shell Gas Station prize, the New Year’s Day Classic has continued to fracture and reform as the race pushes deeper into the Belize District.
The front four — Jyven Gonzalez and Justin Williams of L39ION of Los Angeles, Tarique Flowers of A. Mahler Digi Alliance, and Kenyon Stanford of G‑Flow — have maintained a relentless tempo since leaving Orange Walk. Their advantage has now grown to more than two minutes, making them the dominant force on the road.
Behind them, the race has taken on new life.
Mexican rider Ignacio Prado (Canel’s Java) found himself in no‑man’s‑land, riding alone between the leaders and the main chase group. He passed the Crooked Tree roundabout at 11:12 a.m., still isolated but holding a steady pace.

Moments earlier at Mile 30, John DeLong (Total Skyline), Oscar Quiroz (Valvoline), and Cory Williams (L39ION of Los Angeles) launched a decisive attack from the chase group. The trio worked smoothly together, quickly reducing the gap to Prado. By 11:18 a.m., they successfully caught him, forming a strong four‑man chase unit now sitting as the second group on the road.
Further back, DeLong’s teammate Michael Reidenbach has been the engine of the original chase group, doing much of the work to keep the leaders within reach and prevent the gap from ballooning even further.
With the Elite race now well into the Belize District, the front four remain firmly in control, while the reshuffled chase groups behind them continue to fight for position and survival. The Classic is entering its decisive phase, and the pressure is only rising as Belize City draws closer.
