By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2025 ATLIB National Track & Field Championship, originally set for Saturday, was postponed due to the rainy weather that has been affecting Belize City since midweek.
The event, hosted by St. John’s College Junior College, was supposed to kick off at 9:00 am today and would have showcased the talents of student-athletes from various institutions, including Galen University, Independence Junior College, University of Belize, San Pedro Junior College, and SJCJC.
With the weather conditions making it unsafe to proceed, organizers had to make the tough decision to postpone the championship. Athletes and fans were looking forward to a thrilling lineup of events, from high-speed sprints to javelin throws.
“Due to unforeseen inclement weather, the 2025 ATLIB National Track & Field Championship, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 25th, has been postponed,” ATLIB said in a statement on Friday evening.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety and comfort of our athletes, officials, and spectators.”
ATLIB rescheduled the national athletic competition for next week.
“The new tentative date for this exciting event is Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex, starting at 9:00 AM,” ATLIB said.
