By Aaron Humes: A 19-year-old Belizean student has reported being scammed out of $400 after attempting to purchase an iPhone 13 Mini through a Facebook buy-and-sell group.
A resident of North Front Street, Belize City, visited the Crimes Investigation Branch Office on Saturday morning to share his experience. According to his report, the young student came across a post featuring the coveted smartphone on January 5 while browsing Facebook. He promptly reached out to the seller, identified as Casanova Tjaun.
Following their initial communication, he sent a total of $400 to an Atlantic Bank account listed under the name Jessica Regina Cocom on January 6. Tjaun assured him that the phone would be shipped to him via Belize Package and Mail Service (BPMS) and promised delivery by January 7. However, the promised phone never arrived.
When contacted again on January 9, Tjaun claimed he would personally deliver the iPhone at 11:00 AM that same day. Unfortunately, that promise also went unfulfilled, and since then, he has been unable to reach Tjaun, as his calls and messages have gone unanswered.
Police and other authorities continue their investigations.
