By Breaking Belize News Staff: An 18-year-old Belize City woman is out on bail after being accused of damaging her friend’s cellphone, though the court found no clear evidence to support her guilty plea.
Willia Usher, an unemployed resident of Vernon Street, appeared before the Senior Magistrate in Court #1 on Monday, charged with damage to property. Police alleged that on September 4, 2025, she damaged a red Samsung A10 smartphone valued at $220, the property of her friend.
Usher initially pleaded guilty, but the magistrate ruled that the facts did not establish proof that the phone had actually been damaged. As a result, the guilty plea was rejected and an equivocal plea was entered on her behalf.
She was granted bail and her case was adjourned until October.
According to the complainant, he allowed Usher to stay at his home on September 2. The next morning, his phone went missing. He later confronted Usher by text, but never saw his phone again. Police charged her with damage to property after she allegedly admitted to breaking the phone out of anger and throwing it into an open lot.
Usher has denied stealing the phone and maintains that she only borrowed it.
