By Breaking Belize News Staff: An 18-year-old Belize City man has been remanded to prison after pleading guilty to threatening to burn down his 39-year-old girlfriend’s home with her and her five children inside.
Jaden Busano appeared before a magistrate in Court #5 on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of threat of death against his girlfriend, a cook and mother of five.
The charge stems from an incident on October 5, 2026, when Busano allegedly threatened the woman, telling her, “I wah burn down this house with all ah uno in it.”
In court, Busano admitted making the threat but claimed he was under the influence of alcohol and experiencing considerable stress. He also disputed claims that the woman was his former girlfriend, insisting they were still in an intimate relationship and that he considered himself a stepfather to her five children.
According to the police report, the woman had ended their relationship over allegations of infidelity, but Busano reportedly continued harassing her in an attempt to reconcile.
The woman also alleged that Busano had previously attempted to set fire to her home. She reported that on October 6, a relative alerted her to a fire in her backyard, where clothing, bags and a mattress had reportedly been set ablaze. The flames allegedly spread to the house before neighbours helped extinguish them.
Police say Busano subsequently admitted to the incident during an interview conducted in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
Busano was previously listed as wanted by police on October 8 in connection with an investigation.
The magistrate accepted his guilty plea but deferred sentencing until Friday, November 6, 2026. Busano was remanded to the Belize Central Prison in the interim.
