By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 16-year-old minor is tonight on remand at the Wagner’s Youth Facility after being arraigned at the Belize Family Court for the murder of 28-year-old Salma Raquel Orellana Funes, a Ladyville mother of three who was fatally shot inside a nightclub last week Thursday, May 7, 2026.
The minor, of the Pepsi Road area in Lords Bank, was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court shortly before 10:00 this morning in a police mobile before being taken to the Belize Family Court at the Charles Bartlett Building on Administration Drive.
The teenager, who was accompanied by his mother, was read a single charge of murder in her presence. He appeared before a magistrate in connection with the shooting death of Orellana Funes, whose killing shocked the Ladyville community.
Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken and the minor was remanded to the Wagner’s Facility, located on the Belize Central Prison compound.
Police allege that the teenager was responsible for the fatal shooting of Orellana Funes during the nightclub incident last Thursday night.
The accused minor is expected to turn 17 on December 8.
