By Aaron Humes: The Elections and Boundaries Department unofficially reports some 55,812 ballots cast or 28.38 percent of the total number of registered voters.

Six of the leading constituencies by voter turnout are in Belize City – in order, Albert, Queen’s Square, Lake Independence, Mesopotamia, Freetown and Collet, although voter turnout has picked up countrywide.

After a slight dip from the early morning rush between 7 and 8 a.m., turnout has remained fairly steady through the morning hours where it is normally expected that there would be a severe dip in the heat of the day before the final late afternoon and evening rush.

The first reports of skirmishes and alleged voter fraud have popped up, with a report in Corozal Southeast that a man was turned away in Ranchito Village after allegedly trying to vote on behalf of a dead individual, and allegations in Albert of voters having their ballots marked despite being able-bodied by assistants in the polling station after they sought assistance. The latter is allowed within reason for those who are physically unable to help themselves.
