By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Traffic enforcement was stepped up in southern Belize early Sunday morning as police and DOT wardens conducted checkpoints along the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway.
According to reports, the Punta Gorda Road Policing Unit teamed up with DOT wardens from Punta Gorda, Dangriga, and Independence for the operation which ran from 2:15 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on February 1st, 2026.
Checkpoints were set up in two key areas, one near Cattle Landing and another at Forest Home Village by the bus stop, focusing on detecting and deterring drunk driving and other traffic offences.
In total, authorities say 100 vehicles were inspected and 11 traffic violation tickets were issued. The operation ended without incident, and officers used safety equipment including traffic cones, vests, signage, and body cameras.
